Ball Striking & Path
A basket or headcover set just behind the ball physically blocks an over-the-top move, forcing the downswing to drop onto a proper inside path.
intermediate10-15 reps, twice a week2 baskets or headcovers
How to perform it
- 1.Place a basket or headcover about 18 inches behind the ball, in line with where an over-the-top downswing would travel.
- 2.Take a normal backswing — there's plenty of room — then swing down without striking the obstacle.
- 3.Once that's consistent, add a second basket about 2 feet in front of the ball, offset slightly inside the first, forming a full gate.
- 4.Swing through both obstacles cleanly to confirm the whole downswing is routing from the inside.
What you should learn
- •What it feels like to start the downswing from the inside instead of casting the club out and over.
- •How to feel the transition move that avoids the obstacle rather than just avoiding it visually.
After a few weeks of practice
Your downswing routes from the inside far more often, over-the-top misses shrink, and ball flight trends straighter or draws more reliably.
