Ball Striking & Path

Single headcover path

A headcover placed just outside and behind the ball trains the club to approach from inside the target line — useful for learning a draw or simply killing a slice.

intermediate10 slow reps then 10-15 full swings, twice a week1 headcover

How to perform it

  1. 1.Place a headcover roughly 4 inches outside the ball and 6 inches behind it, along the target line.
  2. 2.Make slow, smooth practice swings without brushing the headcover on either the backswing or downswing.
  3. 3.Progress to hitting balls, keeping the same 'miss the headcover' feedback.
  4. 4.If you tend to hook instead, flip the headcover to the inside of the ball to work the opposite fault.

What you should learn

  • The feeling of an inside-to-square approach path.
  • How much (or little) path change is actually needed to turn a slice into a straight or drawing shot.

After a few weeks of practice

Your path becomes reliably inside-to-square, slice spin drops off noticeably, and contact quality improves as the path stabilises.
