Bunker Play
Drawing a foot-sized circle around where the ball sits teaches exactly how much sand a standard splash shot should remove.

How to perform it
- 1.Draw a circle in the sand roughly the size of a shoe, with the ball position at the centre-front.
- 2.Swing to remove sand from inside the circle only, entering just behind its back edge and exiting near the front.
- 3.Check that the splash mark matches the circle — too small means hitting the ball first, too large means chunking.
- 4.Repeat with an actual ball once the sand-removal pattern is consistent.
What you should learn
- •How much sand a proper splash shot actually takes.
- •To trust the technique rather than steering the club toward the ball.
After a few weeks of practice
Your splash divot becomes correctly sized on nearly every attempt, and carry distance and trajectory from greenside sand become far more consistent.
