Ten-finger pressure check

Holding the club with all ten fingers, baseball-style, helps you calibrate a relaxed, even grip pressure before settling into your normal grip.

beginnerA pressure check at the start of every session

How to perform it

  1. 1.Hold the club with all ten fingers on the grip, no overlap or interlock, and notice the pressure in both hands.
  2. 2.Rate how tight you're holding on a scale of 1 to 10 — aim for around 3 to 5, secure but not tense.
  3. 3.Take a few practice swings, watching for tension creeping back in.
  4. 4.Switch back to your normal grip style, trying to keep that same relaxed pressure.

What you should learn

  • What a genuinely relaxed grip pressure feels like, since most golfers grip far tighter than they realise.
  • How grip tension shows up later in the swing as a restricted release.

After a few weeks of practice

Your forearms and wrists stay looser through impact, the release feels more natural, and you'll likely notice less slice spin and a touch more clubhead speed.
