Putting

Two-coin green reading

Two coins placed along the curved path of a breaking putt act as intermediate aim points, training you to commit to the full curve rather than aiming straight at the hole.

How to perform it

  1. 1.Study the putt from behind the ball, behind the hole, and from the side to build your read.
  2. 2.Place two coins along the curved path you've visualised, marking two points the ball should track through.
  3. 3.Aim and start the putt at the first coin, trusting the ball to curve through the second and into the hole.
  4. 4.Compare the ball's actual roll to the coin path afterward and adjust your read for next time.

What you should learn

  • To commit to a full breaking line instead of aiming straight and hoping.
  • How to calibrate your own sense of break amount against what actually happens.

After a few weeks of practice

Your reads become more accurate over time, and putts missed low on the break — the most common breaking-putt miss — become noticeably rarer.
